Aldara , also medically known as imiquimod, is an immune response modifier that comes as a topical cream. It is used in patients who are at least 12 years old or older to treat skin lesions on the face, scalp (known as Actinic Keratosisgenital), neck, arms, legs, and warts on external genital and anal areas.
Typically one tube of Aldara is prescribed to clear up the infection. A thin layer of cream should be applied directly to the wart or area three times per week before going to sleep. The cream should be left on the skin for six to ten hours without covering.
Some patients may experience burning, itching, blisters, redness, hardened skin, scabbing, peeling, drainage or changes in skin color where the cream is applied.
Aldara may sometimes be used to treat other skin conditions, as suggested by your doctor.
