Altace , also known as ramipril, is an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor used to treat high blood pressure. It is also used to decrease the chance of heart attack or stroke in patients who are at risk for these conditions, and improves survival in patients with a history of heart problems.
Altace works by reducing certain chemicals which cause the blood vessels in the body to tighten, so that blood can flow smoothly and the heart can pump blood efficiently. This medicine comes as an oral capsule that can be taken once or twice daily with or without food.
Common side effects of Altace include headache, cough, dizziness, vomiting, upset stomach, weakness and tiredness.
Altace is also sometimes used to treat other medical conditions, as suggested by your doctor.
