Atrovent , also known as ipratropium, is a bronchodilator used to treat the symptoms of emphysema , chronic bronchitis , asthma and other lung diseases, such as difficult breathing, shortness of breath and wheezing.
It works by relaxing and opening the air passages to the lung, so that you can breathe smoothly. Atrovent comes as a solution and an aerosol inhaled through the mouth. Usually, it is inhaled three to four times daily, or as determined by your doctor.
Some side effects may occur including dizziness, headache, drowsiness, cough, dry mouth, throat irritation, upset stomach or constipation.
Atrovent may sometimes also used to treat other medical conditions, as prescribed by your doctor.
