Avonex , also medically known as interferon beta-1 a, is used to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis .
It works by slowing the development of some incapacitating effects of multiple sclerosis and reducing the amount of relapses caused by the disease. Avonex is available as a powder, which blends into a liquid solution for injection, and as a pre-filled syringe. It is typically injected into a muscle once a week on the same day, in the late afternoon or evening.
The most common side effects from Avonex include muscle ache, dizziness, fever, runny nose, light headache, nausea, chills, joint pain or weakness.
Avonex is also used to soothe genital warts and other medical conditions, as suggested by your doctor.
