DDAVP , also chemically known as desmopressin, is an anti-diuretic hormone used to prevent and treat excessive urination, thirst and dehydration caused by surgery, injury or other medical conditions. It is sometimes used for treatment of diabetes insipidus and some symptoms after surgery of the pituitary gland or head injury.
DDAVP comes as an oral tablet and a nasal liquid solution. The liquid is usually sprayed into nostril twice a day, every morning and evening.
Common side effects of DDAVP are headache, skin redness, upset stomach, stomach cramps and runny or stuffy nose.
Sometimes DDAVP is also used to treat other conditions when prescribed by your doctor.
