Fluoxetine HCL is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that is used to control depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), some panic problems and bulimia (an eating disorder). It increases the quantity of serotonin in the brain to help maintain mental balance.
This medication comes as a tablet, a solution and a capsule to be taken by mouth, once or twice per day, with or without food. It usually takes up to five weeks before you feel the full benefits associated with Fluoxetine HCL.
The most common side effects of Fluoxetine HCL are light headache, drowsiness, weakness, nervousness, upset stomach, dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, loss of appetite, weight loss, and changes in sexual drive.
Fluoxetine HCL may also be used in the treatment of other illnesses, as suggested by your doctor.
