Lescol , also known as fluvastatin, is used in combination with a change in diet to reduce the amount of cholesterol and fatty substances in the blood.
Lescol works by slowing down cholesterol production in the body. When cholesterol and fatty substances begin to collect on the artery walls, the blood flow (and therefore oxygen supply to the heart and brain) is reduced. Lowering cholesterol helps prevent heart disease , strokes, heart attacks and angina .
Lescol comes in the form of an oral capsule and an extended-release tablet. The medication is generally taken once a day, around bedtime, with or without food.
Common side effects users may experience when taking this form of drug include headache, heartburn, insomnia, sinus pain and stomach pain. If you experience more severe side effects, contact your doctor for immediate assistance.
Occasionally, Lescol will be prescribed for other purposes, under the direction of your doctor.
