Leukeran , also known as chlorambucil, is a type of medication used to treat certain types of cancer. More specifically, it is used to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia , non-Hodgkins lymphomas and advanced Hodgkins disease . This type of medication does not cure cancer.
Leukeran is taken in the form of oral tablets. It works by stopping (or slowing) the growth of cancer cells in the patients body. The length of treatment will depend on the types of drugs you are taking, how your body responds to them and the type of cancer you are treating.
Common side effects users may experience when taking Leukeran include darkened skin, dry skin, loss of appetite, weakness and diarrhea. If you experience more severe or painful side effects, contact your doctor for assistance.
Occasionally Leukeran may be prescribed by doctors to treat Waldenstroms macroglobulinemia , polycythemia vera , ovarian carcinoma and nephritic syndrome . It may be prescribed for other purposes as well, as directed by your doctor.
