Lotrel is a combination of amlodipine and benazepril which is used in the treatment of high blood pressure. This type of medication is known as a calcium channel blocker and works by relaxing the blood vessels in order to reduce the amount of stress on the heart. It is also known as an angiotensin converting enzyme which decreases specific chemicals in the body in order to loosen the blood vessels.
Lotrel is taken in the form of an oral capsule. This capsule is usually taken once a day, at approximately the same time for maximum effectiveness. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Never take more or less than what is prescribed by your doctor.
Some of the common side effects associated with this type of medication include cough, headache, swollen hands and feet, dizziness, mild skin rash and hoarseness. If you experience more severe side effects such as fainting or yellow skin, contact your doctor immediately for assistance.
Occasionally, Lotrel will be prescribed for other purposes, as suggested by your doctor.
