Ortho-Cyclen (28)

Ortho-Cyclen , a norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol combination is used in the prevention of pregnancy in sexually active women.

Ortho-Cyclen , along with most other oral contraceptives, works by stopping the womans eggs from fully developing each month. Without full egg development, pregnancy is almost impossible.

Taken once a day, no more than 24 hours apart, this progesterone/estrogen pill is 99 percent effective in preventing pregnancy. It does not prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases , so using a condom or contraceptive foam in combination with the birth control pill is recommended.

Common side effects associated with Ortho-Cyclen include nausea, breast tenderness, irregular menstrual periods, weight change and vomiting. If you miss a period completely, contact your doctor immediately.

Ortho-Cyclen may occasionally be prescribed by doctors to regulate the patients menstrual periods, to alleviate menopausal symptoms or to treat acne in individuals over 15 years of age.
