Ovcon is a combination of estrogen/progestin and is used as an oral contraceptive in the prevention of pregnancy.
Ovcon , like most other oral contraceptives, is designed to stop the womans egg from fully developing each month. If the egg cannot fully develop, it cannot accept sperm and therefore pregnancy is impossible.
This type of birth control pill must be taken on a daily basis, no more than 24 hours apart for effective results. When taken correctly, Ovcon has a 99 percent effectiveness rate in preventing pregnancy; however it does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases . If more than 24 hours passes between two pills, the likeliness of pregnancy increases.
Common side effects associated with this type of medication include irregular menstrual periods, breast pain/tenderness, nausea, stomach pain, dizziness and weight change. If you miss a period, contact your doctor immediately.
Ovcon may occasionally be prescribed to treat acne in individuals over 15 years of age, to regulate a womans menstrual cycle or to treat menopausal symptoms as well.
