Silvadene , also known as silversulfadiazine, is a cream which is used in the treatment of severe (second or third degree) burns.
This cream is generally applied once or twice a day in order to heal the skin, kill bacteria and prevent infection. Silvadene should not be used on infants who are less than two months of age.
Some of the common side effects associated with this type of drug include burning, itching, unusual bleeding or blistering, fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes and blood in urine. If severe pain continues to exist for days after the first application, contact your doctor immediately.
Silvadene may also be prescribed as treatment for other conditions, as suggested by your doctor.
