Spironolactone

Spironolactone is a form of medication used to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure caused by various conditions.

This drug causes the kidneys to eliminate unnecessary water and salt from the body through increased urination.

Spironolactone is taken by mouth in the form of a tablet. It is usually taken once a day in the morning (as prescribed by your doctor) and works best when taken with food.

Common side effects related to this type of drug include upset stomach, diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, gas, frequent urination, dizziness, headache, enlarged/painful breasts and irregular menstrual periods. If the side effects become severe, contact a medical professional for assistance.

Spironolactone is occasionally prescribed for other purposes, as directed by your doctor.
