Sumycin is a tetracycline antibiotic which is used to treat bacterial infections such as pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections. Sumycin works by preventing the growth and spread of bacteria within the body.
Sumycin is available in tablet form and generally taken two to four times per day, as prescribed by your doctor. This drug should be taken on an empty stomach, at least one hour before meals. A glass full of water should be taken with each pill.
Common side effects of this medication include upset stomach, diarrhea, itchy rectum and vagina, sore mouth, redness in the skin or changes in skin color.
Sumycin may also be prescribed by your doctor to treat acne, Lyme disease and the treatment and prevent of anthrax (prior to inhalation). This drug may be used for other purposes as well, as directed by your doctor.
