Tetracycline HCl is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections. It may also be used as an alternative to other forms of medication to treat Lyme disease and anthrax exposure.
Tetracycline HCl is taken orally through the use of a liquid-filled capsule. This drug must be taken on an empty stomach.
Common side effects associated with Tetracycline HCl include diarrhea, upset stomach, itching of the rectum or vagina, sore mouth and changes in skin color. If the side effects persist or seem to be getting more severe, contact your doctor or other medical professional as soon as possible.
This drug is also used in combination with other medicines to treat acne and other types of skin infections. Tetracycline HCl may occasionally be used for other purposes, as directed by your doctor.
