Xanax Uses

Alprazolam, the chemical name of Xanax, belongs to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines.

Clnical trials have shown alprazolam is an effective agent in the management of anxiety disorders and can provide fast relief of symptoms of excessive anxiety and nervous tension.

Alprazolam is prescribed for patients affected by Generalized Anxiety Disorder, anxiety associated with depression, and Panic Disorder with or without agoraphobia.

It is not intended for use in moderating the tensions of stress of everyday life.

Alprazolam has shown to be have some effect in treating other conditions as well, including:

  • irritable bowel syndrome that may result from anxiety or neurosis;
  • extreme symptoms associated with pre-menstrual syndrome;
  • tremors;
  • ringing ears (tinnitus).
Xanax is not considered effective in treating patients with character and personality disorders or obsessive-compulsive disorders.

Likewise, it is not prescribed for the management of depressive or psychotic disorders.
