Ziagen , also medically known as abacavir, is used in addition to other medicines in order to treat infections caused by the human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV).
This medication works by keeping HIV from reproducing in the body which is known to slow down (and eventually destroy) the immune system. This medicine will not prevent the spread of HIV from one person to another.
Ziagen is taken orally in the form of a solution or tablet, in specific dosages which are clearly set out by your doctor. Do not take more or less than what has been prescribed.
Common side effects associated with this type of medication include headache, sleeping difficulties and breast enlargement. If the side effects become severe, contact your doctor or other medical professional for assistance.
Ziagen may occasionally be prescribed for other purposes, as directed by your doctor.
