Zomig

Zomig , also known as zolmitriptan, is a cerebral vasoconstrictor used to alleviate migraine headache attacks which are often associated with other symptoms such as an upset stomach or sensitivity to light and sound.

This type of medication works by reducing the swelling of blood vessels surrounding the brain and blocking the releases of natural substances which are known to cause pain, upset stomach and other migraine symptoms.

Zomig is taken orally as a normal tablet or as an orally disintegrating tablet. It is taken during a migraine attack to alleviate the pain.

Commons side effects users may experience include burning or tingling feeling, drowsiness, upset stomach, excessive sweating and a general sense of weakness in the body.

Zomig may occasionally be prescribed for other purposes, as directed by your doctor.

I have used Zomig since 1998 with great success. I used to take it during a full-blown migraine, now I take it when I feel a tingle or tightening behind my left eye. The medication does take two hours to enter the blood stream and take effect, by taking the med at the onset, by the time the pain is severe, Zomig kicks in and nails it. I use 2.5 mg or a full tab of 5.o mg depending on the intensity of the migraine. I have not tried other triptan drugs, but I travel nowhere without Zomig in my purse, luggage and car. 2/16/09

I've taken this prescription for several years to manage severe headaches. For me, it has worked perfectly. I typically take 1/2 tablet to start with, and the other 1/2 an our later if symptoms persist.
