Blood Pressure Treatment

If you suffer from high blood pressure, it is extremely important that you make every effort necessary to keep it down. First of all, be certain to test your blood pressure often with a blood pressure monitor. You don’t have to go to your doctor to do this – many pharmacies will have them. It’s not a bad idea to test your blood pressure every week.

Keep in mind that things that get you excited or stressed out may raise your blood pressure temporarily. Healthy blood pressure is measured as 140/90, so do your best to keep it below this number. If you have kidney disease or diabetes, you should keep it even lower than that. While having low blood pressure can be a problem as well, it is not as common or as threatening as high blood pressure.

High blood pressure symptoms can be vague, and having the symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean that you have the problem. The only real way to know whether or not you have it is to have your blood pressure tested often, either at the doctor’s office or at home. At-home blood pressure monitors are very easy to operate, but you can ask someone who works at a pharmacy for assistance, should you need it.

In order to keep your blood pressure low, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes in particularly bad cases of high blood pressure, lifestyle modifications on their own may not be enough and you may have to take a prescription high blood pressure medication. Whether or not this is necessary is a decision that will be made by your doctor.

I have had high blood pressure for years. I have been unable to tolerate any meds for it---for these make me so dizzy and sick I have to go to bed. Also, I have glaucoma and cannot tolerate those meds for treatment. I had some surgery---with lasers after cataract surgery--now I see except for reading glasses.
